I have been an assessor of applicants
seeking ICF coach certification for 6 years.
In this capacity I have had the extraordinary opportunity to
familiarize myself and re-familiarize myself with the 11 ICF Core
Competencies on both a continuous and frequent basis.
Being an ICF assessor has also afforded me the privilege of
observing many other Master Certified Coaches using the core
competencies as they coach certification applicants.
This
process has helped me learn much about the coaching skills expected of
ACC, PCC and MCC applicants. It
has allowed me to review the written exams of many applicants, as well
as listen to numerous coaching tapes and live coaching sessions.
Over the years I have become skilled in providing feedback about
how well or poorly applicants’ answers to questions and taped &
live coaching sessions embody the 11 ICF Core Competencies.
I am able to articulate the areas in which an applicant performs
well, and those in which specific kinds of improvement are indicated.
I can help coaches better understand what types of review, study
and practice will help them improve their coaching performance.
With
a signed client release, I am happy to listen to and offer feedback on
coaching tapes, as well as listen to and provide feedback on live
coaching sessions.
I
have also seen “
Mentor
Coaching” advertised in which the
coaching content relates to building the coach’s business rather than
the ICF Core Competencies. While
building one’s business is an extremely valuable and useful course of
study, it won’t help applicants pass ICF certification exams. |
